The series "PLAYING FIELDS" by Jens Liebchen became
actual.
Liebchen travelled in 2004/2005 in the Caucas region and round the Caspian
Sea to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. The publication
text by Gerry Badger “HIDDEN – PRESENCE IN ABSENCE” of
this series is introduced by a quotation from Dick Cheney:
"I cannot think of a time when we have had a region emerge so suddenly
to become as stategically significant as the Caspian. Cheney expressed
this ten years ago as a CEO of Halliburton one of the leading oil and
energy industry suppy companies. Liebchen went to all these places in
the Caspian region but didn’t photograph the oil industry and oil
fields. The “Great
Game” is largely invisible…“Photography is particular,
literal, concrete. That is its glory but also its limitation, especially
if a photographer is desirous of photographing history - and paradoxically,
there is no better subject with which a photographer can engage than
history. [...] (Gerry Badger).
The limited publication is available for EUR 24,- + shipping costs. www.heckenhauer.net/ga/de/kuenstler/liebchen/index.html
