| History and Program |
In 1997, the gallery J. J. Heckenhauer was founded by Roger Sonnewald in Tübingen . In 2000, he moved to Berlin. Since 2003, the gallery was located in Berlin-Mitte, Brunnenstrasse one of Berlin’s most vibrant and well-known gallery streets. We moved back to Tuebingen in Southern Germany in 2009. Until next year we’ll present a small group show by several artists in our Tuebingen based space and will continue the exhibition program in 2010. The gallery's programme comprises contemporary international photography and video art with a focus on young emerging artists from Berlin and Leipzig on the one hand, and reknown artists from Russia and Switzerland on the other. J. J. Heckenhauer concentrates, however, especially on the promotion of young artists discovered by the gallery. Remarkable high quality book publications printed in the Tübingen publishing house support the artists’ work and have been awarded numerous prizes. Since several years, J. J. Heckenhauer participates in important art fairs, such as PARIS PHOTO, PHOTO LONDON, ART COLOGNE, BERLINER LISTE, ART MOSCOW and PHOTO MIAMI.
