Parameters of Movement
<< zurück

„Parameters of Movement I“ is a project which looks at the phenomena of migration and movement in Siberia. What is happening in these times of growing mobility, of globalisation and increasing urbanisation, to a region which is perceived (at least in the Western World) as a cliché per se: A weird place distinguished by it´s special historical and climatic destiny. In this respect, the term “movement” refers not only to migration but also to the modernising processes that are taking place in this infamous post-socialist province.

There is no story here as such in narrative form. The series shows insights into daily life in Ulan Ude and the Baikal region: Burjat teenagers with the posture of post-modern youth, or a modern, customized Volga – the car that for decades was the exclusive status symbol of communist party functionaries… The photos function as parameters in terms of a mathematical presentation. Which cultural signposts determine the future of life? And which parameter does an individual use to define the space between reality and dream?
